Envision
a world where our potential is limited only by our imagination,
not by our reach. Where commitment and caring between young and
old is timeless. Where homes and work places are in harmony and
communities nurture their members. Envision a place where the brightest
minds work together to turn imagination into reality. The Human
Development Institute at Purdue University will be such a place.
Purdue is taking the lead in responding to the needs of youth
and families across the life span with an interdisciplinary approach
toward discovery, learning, and engagement. The new institute will
integrate human development efforts across campus into contiguous
space, allowing a creative synergy that transcends traditional
academic boundaries.
Hanley Hall, named in honor of lead gift donors Bill and Sally Hanley, is planned for space adjacent to Fowler House
on State Street. Together, the two buildings will form the Human
Development Institute and will house the Department of Child Development
and Family Studies and all of its centers and programs. Other human
development programs from across the University may be located
there as well. Groundbreaking is scheduled for October 2007.
"This vision grew with faculty collaborators and our desire
to integrate learning, discovery, and engagement around families
and children," says CFS Dean Dennis Savaiano. "The types
of projects that will be undertaken within the Human Development
Institute will benefit not only the University but also the state
and country."
