MFT Admissions Interviews will be held on Friday, February 20, 2009 from 8:30 a.m. ~ 5:00 p.m. If you are selected as a finalist for admission, you will be asked to attend this all day event. We are pleased to welcome four new students for our Class of 2008, all of whom have master’s degrees in MFT:
• Katie Buckley comes to us from Northwestern's program.
• Michelle Finley received her master's from Abilene Christian.
• Una Henry is from the program at Syracuse.
• Saralynn Ruff received her master's from Oregon.

Cleve Shields, Ph.D. has received a major grant from the National Cancer Institute to study the physician patient relationship. He also has grants from the Purdue Regenstrief center for healthcare Engineering and the Oncological Sciences Center for a randomized trial of a patient activation study with breast Cancer patients, and a Kinley Trust award from Purdue Research foundation with colleagues in nursing to examine the effect of guide imagery in managing bone cancer pain.
Volker Thomas, Ph.D. received the 2008 Mary L, Matthews Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching in the College of Consumer and Family Sciences at Purdue University. With his research team he has begun data collection for a 2 year project entitled, Special Play Intervention with Grandparents Raising Their Grandchildren. The project is funded through a grant by the Pulliam Charitable Trust in collaboration with the Martin Luther King Community Center in Indianapolis. In January 2009 Dr. Thomas will begin a 1 year research project in collaboration with the Purdue School of Nursing entitled, Attachment based Interventions with Parents of Difficult New Born Infants. The project is funded by the Kinley Trust. In November 2008 his new book, polished by Sage, (co-edited with Mudita Rastogi, Ph.D.) entitled, Multicultural Couple Therapy, will come out.
Doug Sprenkle, Ph.D., MFT Program Director was elected to the national offices of Treasurer and Board Member of AAMFT. He was also recently inducted into Purdue University's Book of Great Teachers. He just finished writing (with Sean Davis and Jay Lebow) a book on Common Factors in Relational Therapy that will be published by Guilford Press in 2009. He also has been selected to edit the next special issue of the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy (with Ron Chenail)on Effectiveness Research in MFT (scheduled for 2011).
