DEGREES OFFERED

W e offer the Doctor of Philosophy in Child Development and Family Studies with a Specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy. Our program is intended for those who already have a master's degree in MFT from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE), or who have a master's degree in another discipline but have completed the Standard Curriculum in MFT as defined by the COAMFTE. Minor deficiencies may be re-mediated on an independent study basis. Contact the Program Director, Dr. Douglas Sprenkle for more information.

B eginning in Fall, 2010, MFT students will all pursue a combined Marriage and Family Therapy/Family Studies (FS) concentration. We think that this MFT/FS concentration will offer several advantages since graduates will be qualified to teach in a Family Studies as well as a MFT program. Furthermore, we believe the strong FS faculty in our host Department, Child Development and Family Studies, will offer students exciting opportunities for research training and mentoring, along with multidisciplinary projects with MFT. By reducing electives within the MFT program, students can complete the combined concentration by taking (net) only one additional course.

S tudents desiring a master's degree, or who have a need to complete the Standard Curriculum, should contact our partner institution, with whom we have a strong working relationship: MFT Program, Purdue-University, Calumet Campus, Hammond, Indiana , Joseph Wetchler, Ph.D. Program Director.
